Meet the kit (2021 Edition)

I love looking at production companies "meet the team" pages, sometimes they can be incredibly creative. During my monthly kit inspection/testing, I have photographed my kit to "meet the gear" as I'm a freelancer and don't have a team.

My FX9 is my pride and joy and my main camera. I will note that I hardly ever rig it up this much, as I like having a working back. I just wanted to display the configurations I can have it set up in. I have the Zacuto Gratical eye EVF for documentary-style shoots. I use rails, matte boxes, etc for the music videos, short films & commercial work. I bought the FX9 in Jan 2020, it's been out on a few projects now and lockdown gave me a chance to learn it inside and out without the pressures of a shoot.

It's such a huge leap over the FS7, it has a nice new picture profile for REC709 jobs, better colour in sLog3, a much-improved sensor allowing better low light performance and lower noise than the FS7. Fantastic autofocus and not to mention full frame.

The A7siii is the newest kit addition (replacing my A7iii), this is normally used as a gimbal camera or a B-cam to my FX9. I have also used it as an A camera a few times now.

I would hesitate to shoot log on the A7iii as the camera only had 8bit and it would be likely that you would see green and purple artifacts when grading. This has been fixed in the a7siii as it now shoots 10bit, similar to the FX9. While I do think the FX9 is a superior image, the gap between them is close, and sometimes it's best to only have a small camera like this to stay under the radar.

Also, this shoots 4k 120fps...

I personally dislike the fisheye look of a GoPro, and I had been searching for a better action camera. I found it with the DJI Osmo Pocket. I have used this in situations that even my a7siii is too big (think car mounts). It's also fun to put it at the end of a boom pole to get drone type shoots. With a gimbal built-in, it is incredibly stable. I plan to be shooting more BTS content with this little guy.
